FAQ's

Can I be a foster parent if I don't live near Kingsburg?

  • The majority of our foster homes live locally because our foster parents are responsible for transporting pups to their vet appointments, etc. In the event of a medical emergency, our pups need to be close to our vets for care.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

  • Short answer, 16. Long answer, it depends! To be a foster parent you must be at least 21 years of age or have an adult in your home who will be the primary caretaker for the dog(s). To be an event volunteer, the general age is 16, but we welcome younger applicants and can keep you in mind for future positions.

Do I need dog experience to volunteer?

  • No experience necessary! If you haven't worked with dogs before that is okay, but we ask volunteers be open and willing to learn from our existing volunteers and staff. There are also ways to help without having to work directly with our pups. As you grow with us, you will be able to take on more responsibilities, if you so choose.

If I'm an event volunteer, how often am I expected to be at events?

  • When signing up to be an event volunteer, we require a full day shift (11am-5pm) for the first time. After that, you can either stay the whole day or pick between a morning shift (11am-2pm) or an afternoon shift (2pm-closing). We want our volunteers to be knowledgeable, but that takes a little time. For this reason, we ask that you attend events as regularly as possible.
